OUR PHILOSOPHY
The starfish story by American anthropologist Loren Eisley inspires our work.
One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he asked: “What are you doing?”
The boy replied: “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf’s up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.”
“Son,” the man said, “don’t you realise there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a difference!”
After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said: “I made a difference for that one.”
Our work is informed by the knowledge that each person we touch has the ability to achieve great things. We support each person in taking small steps out of their comfort zone. Our approach is to make a difference, one person at a time, one step at a time.

GIVING BACK
Kentish and Co team members give back in numerous ways, as part of our corporate responsibility programme and dedication to the facilities management industry.
David Kentish, our qualified youth coach, coaches students at local schools, on request, at no cost to the schools.
The young people he coaches become increasingly aware of personal development and coaching as powerful and results-focused options, and are able to make real progress in a short time.
In the FM industry, the team have been ‘super volunteers’ with IWFM. Since 2009, Liz has been a committee member of Women in FM then chair of the group, and non-executive member of the Institute of Workplace Management (IWFM) Board. In May 2012, Liz stood down from her role as chair of Women in FM and was appointed deputy chair of IWFM, a post she held until summer 2014.
Other team members are also active committee members of other IWFM groups and networks.
